John Banks is also a researcher in the same Centre. He is basically a game researcher about video and online gaming and game industries in the US with cutting edge projects on emerging co-creative relations, user-led innovation and online social networks in the creative and new media industries. He worked in the videogames industry as an online community manager and online community producer.

Interviews with Game Industries in China

We interviewed personnel of different positions in the game industries in Beijing and Shanghai since Fall 2010. The interview covered management level, planners, programmers, guild, marketers and distributors. We also explored some creative clusters in Beijing. This research process would last till the end of the project to keep the project data updated.

Chengting Mao

Chengting Mao is a Ph.D. candidate in the Communications and new media programme at the National University of Singapore. She works for Prof Chung Peichi on the research projects of game industries in China and Southeast Asia. She is interested in popular culture, convergence culture, film studies, and gender studies. Her dissertation examines the representation of heroine images in Hollywood. The title of her thesis is “Just Look At it: (Post)Feminism, Postmodernism, and Contemporary Action Heroine Cinema.”

Phase VI: Continual release of data/ writing-up of academic papers/ report

The PI and Co-Is will arrange early release of data and policy report (after the first year of data collection). Toward the end of the study, we will also write up our findings in the form of academic journal articles and books. Follow-up data collection will have to be carried out to satisfy of peer review and academic publication requirements. (the 37th months – 48th months)
